We created a surreal movie poster. For this project, we created a surreal/impossible scene in the real world with multiple composited images to be featured on a poster for an upcoming fictional movie. The genre and title were up to us, but our design should reflect them. Our concept is important for this poster design, along wiwth image manipulation and strong typography. Utilizing our skills we have developed in Adobe Photoshop to provide the viewer with unexpected or unusual experiences.
Process:
I struggled a lot with this project because it was hard to create something surrealistic with a fanasty action book with dragons and magic. Overall, once I was able to figure out how to use the snake concept it felt like a breakthrough. The idea of the dragon or snake wrapping around the moon which was the main characters home that she had been forced to run away felt fitting. Since her mother was the Moon Goddess, this book explores corrupt governments and strong female lead fighting to get her mother back. It felt fitting and elevated the design to feel the dragon essence was capturing the moon but not fully encapsualted due to our main character.
Iterations:
During my process to help push the surreal idea I masked and created a snake/dragon pattern for the background. I left the stars I had created because I still wanted to incorporate the space theme due to the main characters home being the moon. Once I got feedback I changed the title typeface to make a bolder but still elegant design. I also realized the text on the sides felt too distracting and took away from the imagery and story I was trying to tell. It also had a better hierarchy of the title of the book being on the top and the eye flowing down the design.
